Midagon names industrial production transformation as a strategic development area

Many industrial businesses are held back by production and plant operations inefficiencies. These can arise from several reasons varying from outdated processes, production bottlenecks, outdated or unsuitable technology, and beyond. Skilled managers can make many improvements as part of the day-to-day processes, but achieving a bigger efficiency jump that allows a company to stand out from the competition often requires a broader transformation. Midagon has renewed its Production and Operations Transformation offering and chosen it as a strategic development area.

18.9.2023

Teemu Metsola, Midagon’s Business Area Director responsible for Process and Manufacturing Industries, highlights the importance of collaboration in industrial production and says Midagon’s independent position offers a strong starting point to facilitate it.

“Production and operations transformation in industrial companies is a strategic focus area for Midagon. With our extensive expertise in the production environment, we aim to resolve inefficiencies together with our clients and ensure that after our collaboration, their business runs better and more smoothly,” Metsola says.

“Based on our unique, neutral positioning, we can make sure that any changes that are made bring real benefits to the business itself. We always define business maturity and gain a shared understanding of development realities with the client’s key stakeholders. We don’t rush to implement the latest trends, systems or hypes - these are just enablers for business benefits realisation. In other words, we do not work for our partners or hypes, but strictly for our clients’ improved operations,” Metsola continues.

How Midagon can help industrial businesses gain improved efficiency

Midagon offers a wide range of services throughout the Production and operations transformation lifecycle, helping clients find answers to questions like:

  • What are my strategic objectives for production efficiency improvements?

  • How can I guarantee shopfloor end users’ benefits on their day-to-day work?

  • What are and how can I utilise the latest digitalisation opportunities?

Together with industrial clients, we execute business transformations, constantly seeking process development opportunities where the business, data, and technology elements are balanced.

We drive complete solutions focusing on improving the business, not just data or technology assets.

“Our program and project management expertise is a highly appreciated accelerator in any production and operations development. We have worked on greenfield and brownfield investment projects, continuous process improvements, and IT system-related developments. We are especially excited about the multiple new, ongoing projects in these areas,” Metsola says.

Examples of ongoing initiatives with industrial clients include:

  • Developing a new operating model and enabling IT&OT capabilities for a new factory in a large-scale investment project

  • Improving production efficiency and implementing a new Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in a multi-factory-wide transformation

  • Implementing a renewed Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) approach in an overarching operations transformation

Building collaboration and stronger ecosystems

As part of the strategic development of the area, we will continue to publish many useful insights throughout the coming fall, around topics like:

  • Balanced personnel satisfaction and efficiency in industrial operations

  • Production evolution – understanding your critical success factors over time

  • Integrated production capability as a strategic objective

“This August, I had the opportunity to join an interesting panel discussion together with Metsä Group’s Jari Vuori about how industrial supply chains can drive efficiency and growth. I’d also like to highlight the upcoming Midagon Industry Talks event on the 1st of November, where our Industrial communities gather industrial management to discuss and share perspectives on operations development. Events like this are another great way to facilitate collaboration across the industrial ecosystem and make it stronger, cleverer, and more connected,” Metsola continues.

Change is not just about words and methods – above all, it’s about talented and committed people.

“Our incredibly skilled production and operations transformation-focused consultants’ deep understanding of industrial business, and its development environment enables our clients to solve their challenges,” Metsola says.

Midagon’s hands-on experience in successful transformations helps anticipate risks and pitfalls and maintain focus on the right things. We will introduce our experts in more detail and share their perspectives in upcoming articles:

  • Paula Hantula - Production planning and execution
